KMA Architecture & Engineering was founded in 1973 by William Krommenhoek. Originally named Krommenhoek and Associates, its patron client was San Diego Federal Savings and Loan. The firm went on to design over 250 branch banks for this client, through its name changes to Great American First Savings Bank and Great American Bank.
In 1978, Jack McKeown, an associate with the firm since it's inception, became a partner and the firm was renamed Krommenhoek McKeown and Associates.
Today, with a team of more than 30 architects and engineers, the firm is known as KMA Architecture & Engineering. The firm's managing partners Don Blair, Timothy Rubesh, Joyce Peabody and Neville Willsmore.
Through the years, KMA has worked to diversify its portfolio which now represents a distinctive mix of expertise including: office, high-tech/industrial, retail, engineering, education, renovations, entertainment, mixed-use, government, multi-family residential, hospitality, and feasibility studies.
The firm's client roster includes private developers, corporations, city, state and federal agencies, as well as schools and universities.
KMA is proud to have made its mark on the San Diego skyline with signature projects including Liberty Station, Parkloft, Sea World, the San Diego Zoo, One America Plaza, the Trolley Center, Las Americas, and Carlsbad Company Stores.
