| Profile: | The Kleinfelder Story
When Jim Kleinfelder invested his life savings in 1961 to start a materials testing consulting service in Stockton, Calif., one of his goals was to build a company that would last and thrive long past his time as its leader.
As his business grew, Jim saw that while the company needed to be flexible enough to adjust to client needs, it also should adhere to a set of core values: honesty, integrity, respect for all individuals and exceptional client service.
Kleinfelder, Inc. has evolved and expanded its services and geographic regions over the years. Jim’s vision of remaining true to core values in business practices is his legacy and the key to our firm’s perpetuation.
We employ experts in the fields of engineering, science and management services, representing extensive experience in chemical, civil, earthquake, environmental, geotechnical and materials engineering, geology and hydrogeology, engineering geology, health risk assessment, industrial hygiene, construction and program management, materials engineering, testing and inspection, toxicology, computer modeling, and computer-aided drafting and design.
Our culture of providing high quality engineering plus technical and management solutions developed upon a common framework of founding principles. We have more than 40 years of service in geotechnical engineering, environmental science, engineering and planning, program and construction management and materials testing.
The Kleinfelder story is about a special company that focuses on client needs, strives to provide excellent client service and remains true to our core ideology.

Kleinfelder Culture
"We succeed in enterprises which demand the positive qualities we possess."
Vision, Expertise and Leadership
Kleinfelder’s culture includes the positive and timeless qualities of vision, expertise and leadership. As a legacy company, our founders and leaders of today aspire to create something bigger and more lasting than themselves—an ongoing institution that exists for a purpose beyond financial gain and that stands the test of time by virtue of our ability to continually improve.
While no firm can assure lifetime employment, Kleinfelder strives to offer its professionals lifetime employability. Kleinfelder makes its professionals the owners of a financial wealth-producing asset: the company. Ownership turns our professionals into stakeholders with a deeper investment to the success of the company, which in turn provides our clients with motivated, productive consultants.
Lifetime employability requires that our leaders provide our professionals with a rich and varied professional development experience and the opportunity to consult on unique, cutting-edge projects using innovative tools and techniques. Our professionals balance the entrepreneurial spirit with an appreciation of the collaborative strength required of successful teamwork.
For Kleinfelder, simply meeting the needs of our clients is not enough. Our professionals strive to meet our clients’ emerging needs. Our culture insists that we maintain a market-driven infrastructure and be adaptable to the changes in our environment and those of our clients. Open lines of communication and collaboration – between our colleagues and with our clients – allows us to anticipate our clients’ needs and provide increasing value to both our colleagues and clients.
The future of the company continues to be bestowed upon those who exemplify the qualities of Kleinfelder’s culture. While our business practices and services may evolve, our culture will remain steadfast. Continued success requires that those who chose to work at Kleinfelder respect and embrace our culture. |
