Specialty: The G2 SLOC Estimator Tool applies preliminary design and historical project data to calculate source lines of code (SLOC) estimates for software projects. These S LOC estimates, when used with a cost model, such as COCOMO (Constructive Cost Model), allow the user to predict costs and schedule for all phases of the project including life cycle maintenance. This provides a means to estimate and plan for total ownership costs without having to wait for the entire system to be built. The initial calculations can be performed with very rough estimates of the software design to give project management a rough estimate of the scope and cost of the project. As increasingly more accurate information becomes available during various stages of the project, the user can continuously refine the SLOC estimates to produce more accurate cost and schedule projections. G2 SLOC Estimator also allows the user to refine the factors used in the SLOC calculations by selecting a subset of the projects in the historical project database. G2 SLOC Estimator guides the user step by step in entering counts for typical software components, such as screens, database tables, algorithms, common code, and device interfaces. Once the program component counts have been entered, the user can click on the Generate Estimates link. G2 SLOC Estimator will provide both SLOC estimates for the overall project as well as detailed estimates associated with component types entered by the user. G2 SLOC Estimator also allows the user to produce reports as Microsoft Excel spreadsheets with the summary and detailed SLOC data.
